Out of Body 101 (Part 2)

“Always know and understand that you are more than your physical body”  Robert Monroe

Before we leap into the next section, make sure that  you have properly prepared for your “Out of Body” adventure by reviewing: Out of Body 101 (Part 1)

Continuing from Part 1 of these instructions;  You should now be nicely reclined and comfortable in your chosen OBE “jump off” point (bed, couch, floor),  are free of any time restraints to your practice and sure that you will not be interrupted at any stage by outside noises or other distractions.

  1.  Relaxation:  The first condition therefore for OBE induction is a completely relaxed body.  If you aren’t relaxed you will have too much consciousness focused on your body.  Generally if you awaken naturally in the mornings and then allow yourself to drift back into the twilight state where you are conscious but are seeing dreamy images drift into your mind, then your body will be in the ideal state of relaxation.  If you do this at other times of the day, an ideal way to relax is to move from the top of your head to your toes systematically tightening each muscle until there is a slight fatigue, then letting them go to remove tension.
  2. Quiesce and Focus Your Mind:  This is the single most important step.  The best state of mind is one in which you are a quiet, completely passive, single-minded observer.  In this passive state your mind does not wander, you are not emotional and not analytical either.  Entering an OBE requires you to impress upon your subconscious mind an intent to leave your body.  For this to be effective you need to practice focusing your mind into a single thread of consciousness, so much so, that whatever it is that you place in your mind’s eye should seem as real to you as if you were encountering it in the so called “real” world.  You also need to receptive to whatever comes during practice and allow whatever occurs to occur without being fearful of what it happening. Finally, it is important to be a passive observer. As long as you have a conscious “controlling interest” in your experience you are too focused in this reality to create a new one.
  3. Wander on the Edge of Consciousness: Explore the border between waking and sleeping. Allow yourself to start falling asleep, but then catch yourself, rouse yourself again and make sure that you are fully conscious.  Do this several times until your body is very relaxed and your mind is in the “passive” framework discussed previously.
  4. Visualize an Object: Visualize any small object, such as a small ball, about six feet in front of your face.  It is even better to wait for a hypnogogic image (one that just comes to you from some other part of your awareness) and then use your conscious mind to take control of it. Visualize it as clearly as possible. Don’t continue with the next step until you can.
  5. Sway the Object a Small Amount: Begin to move the object up and down so that it appears to come a little closer to you and then moves back to where it began. Visualize only tiny movements but keep the object swaying constantly. Keeping the object in motion will help to stabilize the image in your mind and give it more realism.
  6. Increase the Amount of Swaying: Slowly increase the distance the object sways.  Keep swinging the object back and forth toward you, each time bringing it a bit closer.  Make sure your visualization has a sense of perspective and depth such that as the object comes closer it looks bigger and as it moves away again gets much smaller.
  7. Sway Opposite to the Object: Try to feel as if you are swaying in the opposite direction to the object.  Imagine that the object has a strong gravity that pulls you toward it as it gets closer and that you return to your original position as it moves away.  As the object gets closer with each swing, feel it’s gravity pull you more and more in it’s direction.
  8. Grab the Object and Let it Pull You Out: After the image becomes very vivid, and swings close to you, then “grab” onto the image with your mind.  As the image then swings away, your consciousness will follow it and be pulled away from your body.  At this point you will be out of your body.  Let go of that quiesced state of mind and expand your consciousness. You will find that you will be very wide awake, very alert and FREE to explore the non-physical world!

Learning to leave your body is something that takes lots of time, patience and practice, practice, practice.  Don’t expect results overnight.  Most people don’t get results because they try too hard or just plain give up after a few attempts.  Dedicate yourself to learning to do this and one day you will find yourself “Out of Body.”  The first OBE is always the hardest.  Once you have  experienced “Out of Body” then it is much easier to do it again and ultimately it will become just a part of  your new “normal” way of living.  Then you too can avoid all the long security lines at the airport and fly wherever you want instantaneously.

The instruction in this article came originally from Robert Peterson’s book “Out of Body Experiences: How to them and what to expect” which is available for purchase in hardcover or Kindle editions from Amazon.com. Please Comment Below:
